[Vol.26 No.1] How Technology Acceptance and Attitudes Shape Non-native Learners’ Adoption of AI Translation Tools (Sohyun PARK et al., 2025)

This study investigates the adoption of AI-based real-time translation tools among Chinese international students in higher education. Using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), it examines how perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEOU), and attitudes (AT) shape behavioral intention (BI) and actual use (AU), while also considering expected benefit (EB) as a contributing factor. To explore these relationships, a survey of 117 Chinese international students at a South Korean university was analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicate that PU and PEOU significantly influence AT, which in turn mediates their effects on BI and AU. However, EB does not directly impact AT, suggesting its influence operates through other pathways. These findings underscore the importance of intuitive design, clear pedagogical benefits, and positive user attitudes in fostering AI translation tool adoption. By mitigating language barriers, such tools can enhance academic engagement, inclusivity, and multilingual learning experiences.
